WHAT IS MG
Myasthenia Gravis (MG)
Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is rare and chronic neuromuscular disease that causes weakness in voluntary muscles. These muscles include those in the eyes, face, throat, and diaphragm. It’s an autoimmune disorder where the body mistakenly attacks proteins needed for normal muscle function. Symptoms include eye muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, double vision, difficulty swallowing, and impaired speech. In Severe cases, breathing muscles weaken, leading to a myasthenic crisis requiring immediate medical attention.
Congenital myasthenic syndromes (CMS) are a group of rare hereditary conditions caused by genetic changes that result in muscle weakness.
Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) is an autoimmune disorder where your body’s immune system attacks the contact point between motor nerves and muscles — the so-called neuromuscular junction. This damage impairs signaling to your muscles, causing weakness. It’s often associated with small-cell lung cancer, but it can also occur without cancer.
